The phrase “writing JAMB” or “checking JAMB” is commonly used to refer to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, this is a misnomer and a non-standard use of English, as JAMB (the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) is the body responsible for conducting and administering the UTME, the actual test that candidates take.

Saying “writing JAMB” is like saying “writing WAEC” or “writing NECO”—semantically imprecise but widely used. You can only write the exam conducted by the body but not the body itself.

Nevertheless, the expression has become so ingrained in everyday Nigerian English that it now functions as an accepted colloquialism, even if it’s not standard English. For clarity, please note that any reference to “checking JAMB” in this piece should be interpreted as sitting for the UTME.

How To Check JAMB Result Online Step By Step Guide

Would you like to check your JAMB results online? Perhaps you’ve been hearing about the online JAMB result checker, but you’re not sure what it’s all about. The JAMB result checker simply refers to the online JAMB Portal where students can access their result when JAMB releases it. This portal requires candidates to sign in or create an account.  

Here’s how to check the JAMB result online, a step-by-step guide: 

1. Open the JAMB Result Checker, which is the official JAMB eFacility Portal 
2. Log in with your email address and password. If you don’t have an account, you can easily create one.
3. Once you’re in, click “Print Result Slip” 
4. Select your exam year 
5. Select your payment method and pay
6. Type in the phone number you used to create your profile code, or you can just type in your registration number

Your results will appear instantly if JAMB has released them. If you get an error message or a blank page, that means the result isn’t out yet or there’s a traffic overload on the JAMB site. Students should note that they must check their JAMB result with their registration number—there’s no alternative. When accessing your result on the portal, you need your JAMB registration number.

You must log into the JAMB result checker to check your JAMB result with your registration number.

• Enter your email address and password.
• If you already have an account, your dashboard will open immediately.

However, if you’re yet to create an account on the JAMB result checker, you can create one by clicking “Create Account.” You’ll be asked to enter the email address linked to your registration and some other key details.

How To Check JAMB Result On Phone

The most common way to check JAMB results is via SMS. Students usually prefer this method because it’s fast, easy, and doesn’t need any internet connection. Here’s how to check the JAMB result via SMS on your phone:

1. Send UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019, using the mobile number linked to your JAMB registration, i.e., the number used to generate your profile code 
2. You will be debited ₦50 airtime by your network provider 

If the result has been released, JAMB will send it to you immediately—the cumulative total and the subject breakdown. However, the influx of requests they receive upon exam release may cause delays in sending the results.

If you have sent the code and have yet to receive a response from JAMB, kindly exercise some caution as you will be charged N50 for every SMS you send. You might want to try again around the hours of the night (from 12 AM to 5 AM), when most people are asleep; this could reduce the traffic and aid in faster response from JAMB.

However, if you receive an error message, that means the result isn’t out yet. You can also head to the section on Common Issues and Solutions in this article to discover what some common error messages mean.

Note that after checking your JAMB result via SMS, you would still need to head to the portal to print out the result slip. You can do that by following the steps below: 

• Open the JAMB Result Checker, which is the official JAMB Portal 
• Login or create an account
• Click “Print Result Slip” 

Your result should automatically display since you have already checked it via SMS. However, JAMB sometimes takes a while to upload candidates’ results on the portal. So if you saw your result via SMS but didn’t see it on the portal, don’t fret—it just means JAMB is yet to upload it. You can check back after some days.

Common Issues and Solutions With JAMB Result Checker 

Now that we’ve sorted how to check the JAMB result with the registration number and how to check the JAMB result on a phone, it’s time to tackle other topics associated with JAMB results. 

Students often complain about certain challenges they encounter when trying to check their JAMB results. These may occur while checking your result on your phone or via SMS. 

In this section, we’ll elaborate on the most common issues and solutions associated with the JAMB result checker. 

I Can’t Remember My Registration Number 

If you want to check the JAMB result with the registration number but can’t remember the number, you must visit a JAMB office to retrieve it.

Prior to now, JAMB allowed students to retrieve their registration number online. However, that service is no longer available online.

I Keep Receiving the Message, “Result Not Available” 

If you can’t access your JAMB result and you keep receiving “Result Not Available,” it’s either one of the following:

• You are using a phone number that is not linked to your JAMB registration. To access your result online or via SMS, ensure you use the same number connected to your registration, i.e., the number used to generate your profile code.
• All or some of the results haven’t been released. Sometimes, JAMB releases the results batch by batch. So if your friends have seen their results and you haven’t, don’t panic—yours might still be cooking!
• Network or technical glitches. Sometimes, too much traffic leads to system glitches, and system glitches could dispense several error messages. If this is what you’re encountering, wait a while and check back later. 

I Keep Receiving the Message, “Result Withheld” on JAMB Result Checker 

If the JAMB Result Checker online or via SMS says your result has been withheld, it means JAMB has intentionally restricted your result. 

Your result might be withheld due to an issue with your Exam Centre. It could also be as a result of suspected malpractice, misconduct during the exam, or breach of procedural processes.

There is no way to clear this error message out. What you can do is write or visit a JAMB office to complain.

I Keep Receiving Strange JAMB Links; I’m Not Sure if They Are Legit 

At this critical time, fraudsters would be out to trick candidates into clicking various spam websites. Note that JAMB will not send you any unsolicited message or any links to click. All your activities must be carried out on the official JAMB Portal. 

Any JAMB-related message received from any number outside of 55019 or 66019 is fraudulent. Similarly, don’t send result requests to any number outside the aforementioned.

It’s easy to miss important information and key details without being open-minded. So before we uncover the 2025 UTME exam date, here are some top things to note about JAMB UTME:

• JAMB is strict about registration closing dates. The fixed closing date is not likely to be extended. Hence, 2025 UTME candidates must ensure they register as early as possible 
• Candidates below the age of 16 years will not be permitted to sit for the JAMB UTME unless they can prove an exceptional academic record
• You cannot register for the 2025 UTME without your NIN. You’ll need an NIN to create a profile code, and you need that profile code to start your registration. So getting your NIN should be your first step if you don’t have it yet 
• You don’t need to have WAEC results before sitting for the JAMB exam. Although your O’level results will be requested during registration, you can write “Awaiting results.” This is very much acceptable and practiced by most candidates.

2025 UTME Registration Date, Exam Date, and Other Important Dates

You might have seen several conflicting dates on the internet when Googling the 2025 UTME registration date, and maybe even the 2025 UTME exam date. You may be lost, wondering which dates are accurate. 

As released by JAMB on Wednesday, January 29, on its official social media handles, the accurate 2025 UTME registration and exam dates are as follows: 

• 2025 UTME registration date: February 3 – March 8
• 2025 UTME registration date (Direct Entry): March 10 – April 7
• 2025 UTME exam date (Mock): April 5
• 2025 UTME exam date: April 25 – May 5
• 2025 UTME result release date: Yet to be announced by the Board

The above are the most important dates for the 2025 UTME. Don’t let other conflicting dates influence you; instead, jot them down somewhere.

2025 UTME Requirements

Now that you know the 2025 UTME registration date and exam date, let’s talk about the essential requirements for the exam. 

First, to carry out a successful registration, you must provide the following: 

• Your biometrics – to be captured at the CBT centre during the registration process 
• Your O’Level Results (if you’re yet to acquire this, you can state “Awaiting results”)
• Two accredited universities in Nigeria 
• One accredited polytechnic in Nigeria 
• One accredited College of Education in Nigeria 
• Your choice course(s) of study
• A valid phone number 
• A valid email address
• Your NIN

When selecting your course of study, you may choose the same course across all institutions or different related courses. Ensure that your chosen courses are available in the selected institutions and are in line with your chosen subject combination.

Direct Entry applicants must have an ND, NCE, IJMB, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution and must provide academic transcripts.

How to Register for 2025 UTME

Registration for the JAMB exam is an easy and digitalized process. The total registration cost is ₦7,200 and ₦5,700 for Direct Entry students. 

If you’d like to take the mock exam, you are to pay an additional ₦1,500, making a total of ₦8,700. Here’s a step-by-step process on how to register for the JAMB 2025 UTME: 

• Via text message, type the word “NIN,” then leave a space and enter the digits of your NIN in the same text message and send it to 55019 or 66019, e.g. NIN xxxxxxxxx.
• You will be sent a code, which is your profile code. 
• Visit any Accredited CBT center with the profile code and follow the instructions given by the operator.

Yes, it’s as simple as that! Remember to collect the recommended text and other materials that should be provided at the CBT center after your registration. 

Note that your exam date and center will not be assigned immediately after the registration—this will be done later, and candidates will be notified. Follow the steps below to check your 2025 UTME exam date: 

• Head to the JAMB Portal 
• Click “Print exam slip.”
• Your slip will pop up, showing details like your 2025 UTME exam date, your exam center, subject combination, etc. 

Remember that the 2025 UTME exam date runs from April 25 to May 5. Therefore, all candidates will be assigned a date between April 25 and May 5. Whether you’re a Direct Entry student or O’level, your exam will fall between April 25 and May 5. 

If you would like to change your subject combination, you must do so before JAMB releases the exam slips; otherwise, it’ll be too late.

What is JAMB Mock For?

JAMB Mock is for candidates who wish to prepare for JAMB UTME by taking a trial exam. It’s totally optional and available for present candidates and future candidates. 

If you’d like to register for JAMB Mock, you must indicate so during the registration process and pay an additional ₦1,500. If you’re not sitting for the JAMB UTME this year but would like to prepare by taking a trial of the exam, the Future Mock exam is for you. Simply register at any JAMB CBT Centre for ₦3,500.

Is JAMB the Same as UTME?

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is the organizing body of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, the exam is also popularly referred to as JAMB. So whenever someone says JAMB, they’re most likely referring to the UTME.
