Sport Access Scholarship: Melbourne University

Melbourne University Sport is pleased to provide students experiencing financial challenges with various support options. These include a complimentary fitness membership, assistance towards joining a Sport Club or participating in Intervarsity representation, subsidies for Campus Sport competition involvement, and free court hire. At MU Sport, we strive to offer a diverse array of fitness and wellness services aimed at promoting well-being, maintaining control over health, and fostering connections within the university community. No application is required. You will be automatically considered for this award.

What are the Benefits?

In 2024, this scholarship offers the following options

  1. $10,000 tuition fee remission for the first year of an undergraduate degree.
  2. 50% fee remission throughout the three-year duration of an undergraduate degree.
  3. 100% fee remission throughout the three-year duration of an undergraduate degree.

Please note that the benefits for 2025 have not yet been confirmed.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship: You must be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not hold permanent residency status in Australia.
  2. Educational Background:
    • Completed secondary school outside Australia or completed a foundation program in Australia.
    • Received an unconditional offer for an undergraduate course at the University of Melbourne.
  3. Academic Achievement: You must have achieved outstanding academic results, placing you in the top 3% of your cohort. Examples of eligible qualifications include:
    • GCE A-levels: At least three A* grades with numerical grades and an average result of at least 97% in the best three subjects.
    • Most Australian Foundation Studies: An overall result of at least 98%.
    • International Baccalaureate (IB): A score of at least 43 (completed at a secondary school outside of Australia).
    • US High School: A GPA of at least 3.9 combined with an SAT score of at least 1500 or an ACT score of at least 31.
    • Canada Secondary School: An overall score of at least 97%.
    • India Secondary School (CBSE, ISCE, or State Board Exam): An overall score of at least 98%.
    • Vietnam High School: An overall Year 12 GPA of at least 9.7 or above.
  4. Tertiary Studies: You must not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies, excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program.

Selection Criteria:

This scholarship is awarded to students with the highest selection score, which is determined based on prior academic achievements. The selection scores may vary each year and are determined at the time of selection.

Benefits of the Sport Access Scholarships include:

  1. Unlimited Use of Strength & Fitness Gym: Enjoy unrestricted access to the Strength & Fitness Gym, subject to maximum capacity limitations.
  2. Free Introductory Session and Training Program: Receive a complimentary introductory session with a trainer in the Strength and Fitness Gym, along with one free training program per month, subject to availability.
  3. Access to Group Fitness Classes: Attend an unlimited number of Group Fitness classes, subject to class size restrictions.
  4. Unlimited Access to Heated Lap Pool: Enjoy unlimited access to the Beaurepaire 25-meter heated lap pool, subject to maximum occupancy limits.
  5. Member Rates for MU Sport Services: Benefit from member rates for all other MU Sport services and facilities, including court hire and accommodation at the Melbourne University Ski Lodge.
  6. Access to Casual Lockers: Utilize casual lockers during your workout sessions for added convenience.
  7. Subsidy Towards Club Membership: Receive up to a $300 subsidy towards membership fees for an MU Sport Club or Intervarsity representation.
  8. Semesterly Subsidy for Campus Sport Competitions: Receive $50 per semester towards entry into a Campus Sport competition.
  9. Free Court Hire: Enjoy one hour of free court hire per week, subject to availability.

Sport Access Scholarships are awarded twice a year in April (Round 1) and August (Round 2), with access to MU Sport Fitness facilities and subsidy benefits available until December 30 of the same year.
