Eligibility
To qualify for this program, you must fulfill the following three criteria:
- You must be a full-time student enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
- Your academic program must include research as a compulsory component of the curriculum.
- You must meet the minimum age requirement stipulated by the province or territory where you intend to work.
Additionally, individuals with physical or emotional disabilities who hold full-time status at their academic institution are also eligible. Requirements:
- Ensuring that students employed within the organization are hired through approved student employment programs outlined in the appendix to this directive. Alternatively, if hired as specified-period employees or casual workers, ensuring they are compensated in line with relevant collective agreements or terms of employment.
- Providing meaningful work opportunities that enable students to learn and contribute to the organization’s objectives.
- Determining the qualifications and minimum academic achievements required for applicants to perform the work effectively.
- Giving preference to Canadian students over non-Canadian students eligible to work in Canada.
- Verifying the legal entitlement of non-Canadian students to work in Canada before offering them employment.
- Ensuring compliance with visa or work permit requirements for Canadian students hired for positions abroad, including valid documentation and adherence to employment conditions.
- Confirming that the student will return to full-time studies in the upcoming academic term. If the student is in their final year, ensuring they have previously been employed under an approved student program.
- Developing a structured learning plan outlining the student’s learning goals during their assignment.
- Monitoring and assessing the student’s progress throughout their assignment to facilitate their development and growth.
